One two-month cruise through the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner departed without her and came back later that day after the personnel became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission found her person the next day.

Authorities are looking into the event, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company announced that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" banning any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

Sequence of Occurrences

The liner initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was just two days into the journey at the point of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who generally pay large sums of currency to take part in the voyage - were transported there for a daily excursion with the choice of trekking or snorkeling.

Relatives Response

The child of the victim said that her family was "surprised and distressed that the ship left the location after an organised tour without my mother".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"Based on limited details we have been told, it seems that there was a breakdown of care and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She continued that she wished the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have done that might have preserved Mother's existence".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a very hot period, and mum took sick on the hill climb," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to head down, alone. Then the ship left, apparently without doing a headcount.

"During some point in that sequence, or not long after, mother passed away, by herself."

Operator Position

Through an announcement, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with authorities to assist their examination".

He said that the organization was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had extended its complete assistance to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Procedures

The ship caters for up to a hundred twenty travelers with 46 staff, according to company information. It was specially constructed to reach distant areas of the Australian shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to take individuals on shore trips.

Occurrences such as this are rare, and passenger vessels have procedures to record which travelers are embarking or leaving, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship just isn't an choice," an authority stated.

Shipping companies consider these procedures very seriously and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such events from happening," the authority further stated.

"This is most likely a stunning - and tragic - single occurrence."
