The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

As any prominent honors show draws close, you'll find an outcry for introducing of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games worldwide and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
